IDFC Institute hosted a webinar titled ‘Central Bank Digital Currencies: Asset or Liability?’ on Friday, 22nd October, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm IST.
With CBDCs gaining traction globally, the Reserve Bank of India is now considering pilot projects as well. It will have to address several thorny issues — from the fallout of digital fiat currencies for the banking system and monetary policy to security and data risks that could compromise the entire system and the privacy of end users.
Anand Sinha, former Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India; Sabyasachi Kar, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Chair Professor at the Institute of Economic Growth; and Hemant Adarkar, Technology Advisor and Resident Senior Fellow at IDFC Institute, joined as panellists for a discussion on the various aspects and regulatory challenges of implementing CBDCs.
We had a 45 minute discussion with the panellists, moderated by Niranjan Rajadhyaksha, Research Director and Senior Fellow at IDFC Institute. It was followed by a round of Q&A with the audience.
