Lead, Finance and Grant Management

IDFC Institute is seeking applications for the position of Lead, Finance and Grant Management to develop the finance function and lead grant management.

 

About the Role:

The Lead will play a pivotal role at the Institute at this stage of our growth. Over the past two years, IDFC Institute has diversified its funding base to include both domestic and international donors. This necessitates a restructuring of the existing finance function to manage multiple sources of funding and project requirements. The Lead will develop budget projections, monitor expenditure, manage incoming grants, ensure compliance with grant regulations (CSR, FCRA), prepare/vet grant proposals, and provide inputs to the fundraising process. A key part of this role will be to develop internal systems and processes to improve both the grant management and finance function. The Lead may be required to engage with donor agencies/grantors and will have to ensure that the Institute staff (especially field staff) is aware of grant restrictions and other policies.

The ideal candidate for this role should have managed foreign and domestic grants, be abreast of current regulations, possess strong organisational skills, be a good communicator and be willing to step into a leadership position if required. The candidate should be able to vet contracts and partnership agreements. The Lead will work directly with the CEO, Director and senior management team of IDFC Institute and the CFO/COO of IDFC Foundation.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Key responsibility: Budgets, which will include (but is not limited to):
    • Preparing budget projections
    • Tracking expenditure in accordance with budgets
    • Determining funding needs
  • Key responsibility: Grant Management, which will include (but is not limited to):
    • Helping prepare and vet grant proposals/budgets
    • Tracking and manage grant applications
    • Managing grant and legal paperwork for incoming grants (critical)
    • Ensuring funds are spent in accordance with grant budgets and FCRA regulations
    • Optimising the grant administration process
    • Helping teams track timelines and deliverables
    • Preparing grant progress reports
    • Liaising with grantors
    • Co-ordinating with research teams executing projects on-ground to ensure their expenditure is in line with regulations
  • Key responsibility: Process Management, which will include (but is not limited to):
    • Developing templates for research staff to track expenditure on their projects
    • Improving overall process management within the Finance function
  • Key responsibility: Reporting, which will include (but is not limited to):
    • Preparing update reports for senior management and the Board of IDFC Foundation

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • CA/Degree in Finance or equivalent.
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A good understanding of CSR and FCRA regulations (critical)
  • Knowledge of auditing policies
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience including budgeting and accounting
  • Basic knowledge of the donor landscape, international and local, is an added bonus
